NATMALC elects new president

The National Traders and Market Leaders Council of Nigeria (NATMALC) has elected Mrs. Mercy Tumo Orlu as the president of the association, Rivers state chapter.

The National Traders and Market Leaders Council of Nigeria (NATMALC) has elected Mrs. Mercy Tumo Orlu as the president of the association, Rivers state chapter.

She was elected after the association passed a vote of no confidence on her predecessor, Mrs. Grace Kalio.

Speaking at the occasion, after she was elected in Port Harcourt where all the traders from the 23 local government gathered, Mrs. Orlu promised to carry all the traders along and to work with them.

She said that after the National Council has passed a vote of no confidence on Mrs. Kalio, she would operate an open door policy, urging them to give her maximum support for her to achieve the aims and objectives of the association.
The president noted that the members were not empowered as expected by the past exco and assured that with her administration members will enjoy the dividends of democracy.

She lauded the state governor, Dr. Peter Odili for his philanthropic gesture towards the association but regretted that the governor's gestures were hardly felt by the members.

Mrs. Orlu urged all traders to rally round her and be loyal, law-abiding and above all obedient in order to achieve their goals.

Also speaking in an interview with Telegraph, Mrs. Charity Abonyo said that time has come for the traders to benefit because according to her, their messiah has come in form of man.

She told the state president, Mrs. Orlu that the traders are solidly behind her and would give her maximum support and co-operation.
"We know that men refused to join the association because of the attitude displayed by our last exco. But we are pleading that they should come back because a new exco has come to stay", he added.

She pleaded with the state president not to side any body when she discovers that such a person is going astray, but to caution such person in order to avoid mistake in future.

Mrs. Abonyo advised her to continue to give them her motherly advice and care, which she has been displaying.

Bearing her own mind on the election of the new president, Mrs. Elizabeth Tuboberemi hinted that the removal of the past leaders both state and national was unanimously agreed.

"Mrs. Mercy Orlu is out spoken and she has been fighting injustice and making sure that there is orderliness in the association", he said.
"Since she is a straight forward woman, we will continue to support her in order to enjoy her motherly care", she added.
